Motorcyclist suffers serious injuries in wreck

UNION-TRBUNE

7:42 a.m. August 25, 2008

OCEANSIDE: A 25-year-old Oceanside man was seriously hurt in a motorcycle crash shortly before noon yesterday, police said.

The 11:36 a.m. crash occurred in the northbound lanes of College Boulevard south of Frazee Road, said Oceanside police Sgt. Kelan Poorman. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital.

Police did not identify the injured driver.

Police were still investigating the crash yesterday, but witnesses told police that the driver appeared to have been racing another motorcyclist when he failed to complete a left turn, hit a curb, then hit a tree and was thrown from the motorcycle. The driver's body hit a telephone utility box, Poorman said.

Witnesses described the other vehicle in the race as a red, sport-style motorcycle. Its driver did not stay at the scene, police said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Oceanside police Officer Clint Bussey at (760) 435-4412.
