Seized rabbits offered for adoption

UNION-TRIBUNE BREAKING NEWS TEAM

3:42 p.m. August 27, 2008

SAN DIEGO – Thirty-one rabbits seized during an animal-abuse investigation will be offered for adoption on Saturday, county officials said.

The rabbits can be adopted from noon to 4 p.m. at the House Rabbit Society, 4805 Mercury St., Suite C, at the corner of Mercury Street and Ronson Road in Kearny Mesa.

The adoption fee is $25 per rabbit or $35 for two; only cash or checks will be accepted.

The bunnies were found living in a Mira Mesa home in extremely unsanitary conditions, said Lt. Dan DeSousa of the county Department of Animal Services.

Several were pregnant and have since given birth, he said Wednesday.

Dawn Danielson, department director, said bunnies can be great pets, especially for apartments or condos because they “virtually make no noise.”

The rabbits have been spayed or neutered and are litter-box trained.

Bunny supplies can be purchased at the event.
