SAN DIEGO: City Attorney Michael Aguirre yesterday sent a memo to the Centre City Development Corp. telling it how to clean up the 7th & Market development deal now on hold because of former CCDC President Nancy Graham's ties to the developer.
The short answer: Start again from wherever Graham became involved.
“The only remedy is to have new official action after disclosure of the financial interests, without the participation of the conflicted officials,” according to a memo written by Glenn Spitzer, deputy city attorney. The memo doesn't mention the 7th & Market deal but refers to conflicts in general.
CCDC has hired an outside law firm to review two years' worth of deals that involved developers Lennar Corp. and the Related Corp., the two developers with whom Graham had a business partnership in Florida. Documents uncovered this month show she received money from that partnership as late as June 2007 – after Related was chosen to build the 7th & Market project.
The CCDC board is scheduled to hold a meeting Sept. 10 to decide what to do. –J.S.
