THE PROBLEM: A series of tall dirt berms along the east side of Sweetwater Road in Spring Valley may help block traffic noise from nearby state Route 125, but they aren't much to look at.

The berms, which extend nearly a mile from Tyler Street to Spring Vista Way, are covered with tall weeds. Besides being ugly, they pose a fire danger, Judy Timmins said.
“It is a constant source of embarrassment as it is the road people travel to get to our home. UGLY!” Timmins wrote in her appeal for help.
Timmins said that over the past few years she has complained to Caltrans, which referred her to the county of San Diego. She tried the county and fire officials before throwing up her hands. Timmins recently called Just Fix It.
STATUS: Just Fix It contacted Caltrans and the county Transportation Division and found out that the county maintains the berms.
Michael Robinson, deputy director of transportation for the county's Department of Public Works, dispatched workers last week to trim the weeds and has asked that they continue maintaining the area.
Robinson said the county already had plans to spend $500,000 to landscape the berms with plants that need minimal water. The work will be done during the fiscal year that begins July 1, Robinson said.

IT'S FIXED: The sidewalk and roadway on Cuca Street in Rancho Peñasquitos that Just Fix It wrote about this month have been repaired.
A homeowner poured a bag of small rocks in a large hole so he could back out of his driveway and passers-by wouldn't trip. The 40-foot section of roadway near the curb had a nasty lip that rose 5 inches above the rest of the street.
WHO GOT IT FIXED: Hasan Yousef, deputy director of the city of San Diego's Street Division, who can be reached at (619) 527-7504 or hyousef@sandiego.gov. Requests for street repairs in the city of San Diego can be reported at (619) 527-7500 or online at apps.sandiego.gov/streetdiv.
